Intensive Bronze Medallion Course
Branch will be running an intensive Bronze course that will run over 5 days, the course will start Monday 27th February till Friday 2nd March.
The venue is still to be confirmed. The hours each day will be 9am till 3pm.
Basic Beach Management Course
Course Two: Sunday 26th Feb 9am-3pm
Course Purpose:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and experience to manage a beach in emergency and non-emergency situations
Both courses will be held at Branch Headquarters, Warriewood.
Prerequisites:
Minimum of 17 years of age on the date of assessment Bronze medallion (proficient)
Course Content:
Responsibilities and Duties of a Lifeguard/Patrol Captain Regulations at your beach Managing your beach and the public Media Management
Liaising with other organisations Risk Management Search and Rescue Navigation

Rescue Scenarios
Spinal Management Course - February
Course Two: Saturday 25th February 1.30pm- 6pm, location TBC
Spinal Management Certificate Award Summary:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to manage injured casualties with suspected spinal injuries in an aquatic environment and in emergency situations.
Award:
On successful completion the participants will receive the SLSA Spinal Management Certificate.
Course content:
Basic understanding of spinal cord anatomy and injuries
Identify possible causes of spinal injuries
Detail the signs and symptoms of a patient with suspected spinal injuries
How to move a casualty with suspected spinal injuries
Detail the principles of immobilisation for spinal injuries
Detail and demonstrate the management of head and spinal injuries
Detail the precautions necessary for the transportation of casualties with suspected spinal injuries
Pre-requisites:
Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age on the date of the final assessment
Candidates must hold the unit of competency PUAEME001B Provide Emergency Care
Candidates must hold one of the following SLSA awards:
Current SLSA Bronze Medallion/Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)
Course Duration:
Spinal Management courses run for approximately 6 hours.
Assessment:
Candidates will be required to demonstrate competency in all elements in the workplace. They will be required to complete activities that may include oral and written questioning, practical demonstrations of skills and performing scenarios. There is a water component for the assessment phase of this course.
Proficiency:
For this award to remain current, candidates must perform a proficiency check prior to 31st December each year.
